Bad intermediate shaft bearing

Hello all,

I took my Focus into the mechanic because of some break squealing and a rotational clicking sound. He told me that one of the bearings was out in the intermediate shaft. He also said that ford no longer sells just the bearing and that I'd have to replace the entire intermediate shaft which he would sell to me for $ 450 not including labor. He's buying this part from the local dealership and says he's only marking it up $ 15. When I asked him for the part number he said I'd have to call the dealership as he didn't have it. I think I'm getting worked over here. I called the dealership and they're parts department is closed for the weekend.

Can anyone tell me if 1.) $ 450 sounds like too much 2.) does anyone know the part number so I can look around online to get a better idea about the price? 3.) I've never bought car parts online so if anyone knows of some good sites that I might check out.

Thanks for the help.

As far as I can remember, there were two ways of fixing the bearing. One way was to just press out the bearing; the other is to replace the shaft.

You may want to message member Steve aka FORDSVTPARTS, who is part of Tousley Ford - one of our forum sponsors. He can give you a better idea of the part(s) You may need, as well as a good price.

only since you mentioned it...

Orielly's can get you the axles for 70-90 bucks, they usually dont stock them in the smaller stores, but the distribution center stocks them, and gets them same or next day.

OEM axles from a dealership retail for 360-390, last time I checked, so that should put Steves price right at 260-270'ish.
